Concepts of the Progressive Self Defence System

These are some of the concepts that are part of the Progressive Self Defence
System:
- Loop Drills = action and reaction is automated
- Great Variety = flexible reaction to different attacks
- Attributes = development of qualities like coordination, timing,
sensitivity, speed, reflexes, etc.
- Counter Attacks · Sensitivity = training senses – learning to feel
the attack
- Flow = easy and rational motions without interruptions, logical chains
and economic use of the techniques learned
- Trapping = learning how to manipulate and hinder the attacker
- Submission Fighting = fighting Daon the ground
- Grappling = levering, throttling, throwing, locking
- Principle Of The Intercepting Attack = recognising and stopping attacks
when they start – direct counter
- Arming = secure use of weapons like knives, sticks, etc.
- Upright Fighting = fist, foot, knee and elbow techniques, and head
butts
- Bad Tricks = use of unfair methods
Progressive Self Defence System contains methods for realistic
self defence in the modern, western sense, but it also goes back to the
roots and traditions of fighting. Nobody, especially not science, really
knows how old the fighting methods are, that have been delivered to us.
There are only suggestions and theories and most of all – lots of arguments.
It is definite that fighting, warfare and defence are a part of mankind,
this is proven by sculptures, scripts and pictures that are thousands
of years old.
Progressive Self Defence System contains techniques of unarmed and armed
combat, because the aim is to be able to defend oneself against attacks
with and without weapons. Why train with weapons? A law for weapons exists
but there are also slipholes in this law and sometimes the law is not
followed. Many weapons, like knives, telescope sticks and gas guns are
nowadays available for everybody over 18. Now that the boarders have been
opened, the purchase even of illegal weapons is no big problem any more.
The use of Balisongs and other knives in school yards is no longer unusual
and has unfortunately become an everyday scene. It is not my job to say
who’s fault this is, I guess we all contribute to this situation. Violence
is being made harmless and media bring it to children’s TV.
This is why we practice the use of different weapons and defence against
these weapons in the Progressive Self Defence System. The Progressive
Self Defence System contains fighting techniques with knives, sticks,
nunchakus and tonfas. We think you only have a chance to survive such
an unequal fight if you know how the weapon attacking you is used and
you do not give up the fight and your life as soon as you see the metal.
